Alu Posta and Khajur Khatta

RCI is a fantastic event started by Lakshmikof Veggie Cuisine- ‘Celebrating the Regional Cuisines of India’ . It gives us an opportunity to explore the varied cuisines of India. This month Swapna of Swadis hosting RCI: Oriya. Searching for Oriya recipes made me realize how little I know about the cuisine from this costal state of India!Swapna was kind enough to provide links to some sites featuring authentic Oriya recipes, which were a great help. Thank you, Swapna for hosting RCI:Oriya .I have learnt a lot about Oriya Cuisine! Today I made Alu Posta (Potato in poppy seed curry) and…

Dear Anita

Dear Anita, You have no idea how your little provocationhas unsettled my taste buds for the past week. I have been craving each day for those hot, oily floating balloons from the day you posted themat the Mad Tea party! Clicking on any random blog on the Food Blog Desam made matters worse. I found myself drooling and ogling at all those sinful puris. I decided to end my suffering, got up early (inspite of this being a weekend). I did not want anything to come between me and my puris (read my little one). I got up with this…

Mirchi cha Chatka aka Yoghurt Mirchi

Mirchi is Chilly (here dark green ‘Lavangi’ Mirch) and Chatka means ‘burn’ in Marathi. Does that give you an indication of how fiery this recipe must be? This recipe is sure to burn your taste buds. If your palette cannot tolerate the heat, use chillies which are less pungent. Before you enjoy this ‘Chatka’ make sure your room is well ventilated or even better switch on the AC or the fan 🙂 I have to warn…

Kadhi Pakoda

I have learnt quite a few dishes from my Punjabi colleague. I have already blogged about the Beetroot Kanji and Makki di Roti Sarson Da Saag, she taught me.Kadhi Pakoda is one more recipe that I have learnt from her. The weather here is perfect for hot piping Kadhi with Pakodas – the Punjabi style. Kadhi is made differently in different regions in India. The Maharashtrian Kadhi is hot and spicy (will blog about it soon). The Gujrathi Kadhi is a little sweetish to taste. The famous Sindhi Kadhi is an altogether different recipe, which doesn’t use buttermilk at all….

About Me

About

My experiments with cooking go way back, when I stayed in a hostel for my higher studies. The ‘Mess’ (literally) food was good just to satisfy the stomach, not the palate. I really missed my mom’s food then. I still do. A self confessed foodie, I love trying out new recipes. ...
