Happy Diwali! and a recipe for Fresh Figs with Lychee Honey – Nut Shrikhand

Wish you all a Happy Diwali glowing with Peace,Prosperity and Good Health!

If you are looking to prepare some non-traditional, quick dessert this Diwali, here’s a refreshing guilt free dessert; Figs with Lychee Honey -Nut Shrikhand.

Fresh Figs which are in season now, are paired with homemade low calorie version of Shrikhand, using Honey and mixed Nut Chikki. I have used Lychee Honey since I had it on hand, but you can use any Honey you like.

This was a super hit in my house even with the kids!

Here’s the recipe for Figs with Lychee Honey -Nut Shrikhand

Ingredients
  • 7 - 8 figs Fresh firm
  • 1/2 cup Hung curd (preferably homemade)
  • 2 tbsp Lychee honey (or plain ) + 1 tbsp for drizzling
  • 2 - 3 tbsp nut mixed Chikki (or any Brittle)
  • small pinch Nutmeg A grated (Jaiphal)
Servings: servings
Instructions
  1. Add 2 tbsp honey and nutmeg to the hung curd and mix it well. Pass it through a strainer/sieve to remove any lumps. Mix again and refrigerate for 1 hour or till it is ready to be used.
  2. Wash, dry and snip off the stems of the figs. Make a cross cut from the top of each fig to about 3/4th of the way down (do not cut through). Slightly pull the quarters apart.
  3. Place them on the serving plate.
  4. Mix the crushed chikki with the chilled honey shrikhand. Spoon in some of the shrikhand into the cut figs.
  5. Drizzle some honey and sprinkle the crushed chikkis over the stuffed figs.
  6. Serve immediately or refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving.
Recipe Notes

My tip: Choose fresh firm figs as they are easy to cut and also because they are a bit tangy.

I have posted this recipe for  the Better Butter Diwali Delights contest too.

My experiments with cooking go way back, when I stayed in a hostel for my higher studies. The ‘Mess’ (literally) food was good just to satisfy the stomach, not the palate. I really missed my mom’s food then. I still do. A self confessed foodie, I love trying out new recipes. ...
